First-Ever Combined Heading and Filleting System for Salmon

November 7, 2002 - Pisces Inc. has unveiled the AHF492, the world’s first integrated heading and filleting system for salmon processing. Combining the proven technology of the HSV 40 Headcutting Unit and the MKII version of the already popular FR9000 Filleting Machine, the new AHF492 is a single-operator heading and filleting system.

From head-on eviscerated fish, the AHF492 produces high-yield fillets of a smooth appearance at speeds up to 20 fish per minute. The speed of the system is attributed to new, enhanced microprocessor technology that is now standard on the FR-9000 MKII. This combination of speed and automation represents a considerable cost advantage for salmon processors.
The AHF492 is currently running in production at the Brown’s Bay Packing Company in Campbell River, BC, Canada. Lisa Brown, the Production Manager of Value Added Operations, is very excited about the system, and stated, “Our yields have increased and our downgrades have been dramatically reduced due to the improvements made to the PISCES 9000 Filleting Machine. We require less labor and have less gapping and less waste from the belly due to the improved rib cutting system.”
Trevor Wastell, president of Pisces, Inc. stated that in addition to the automatic feeding from the head cutting machine to the filleting machine, major design perameters of the system were to include gentler product handling to accommodate softer fish.
